We ran the numbers and it didn’t look good. We had spreadsheets running all the different debt payoff methods but we couldn’t find a way to improve our families life for at least a decade in the best case scenario.

 

Our 4 year old house, which by all accounts should be gaining equity, was instead already falling apart. The back half of our neighborhood was sold off to a cheaper developer, so we were actually upside down on the house. We were frugal, only had one modest car payment and

We thought we were making a smart investment by buying a house.

By the end of that year we went all-in on a Hail Mary attempt to set ourselves on a better trajectory. We sold everything possible on Craigslist and borrowed money from friends in order to take the loss on the house and buy the roughest piece of property out in the country that we could find.

We then built a tiny house and all told, were able to cut our living expenses by 80%.

We were out of debt in 5 years and for the last 12 years, we've perfected building extremely durable and efficient housing and doing so very affordably. We realize most people can’t or won’t take the journey we did, but they sure as heck can take advantage of our knowledge and expertise to build out the infrastructure that sets up investors, developers and tenants alike for success.
